It's a rare feat to juggle a hit television series with a professional sports career, but that's precisely what this 1990s star managed to do. While millions knew him as the kind-hearted writer Billy Campbell on the hugely popular primetime soap opera *Melrose Place*, he was simultaneously living out a dream on the soccer pitch. His dual-career path made him a unique figure in both pop culture and the world of sports.
In 1996, during the height of his television fame, he joined the Los Angeles Galaxy for the inaugural season of Major League Soccer (MLS). Playing as a midfielder, he was the only active actor playing in the league. Though his professional soccer career was brief, lasting just one season, he made several appearances for the Galaxy and even recorded an assist in a shootout victory over the Tampa Bay Mutiny.
Beyond his time in the spotlight, he has also found success as an entrepreneur and humanitarian. He co-founded the influential non-profit organization DoSomething.org, which encourages young people to get involved in social change, as well as the popular parenting website CafeMom. He is also the brother of acclaimed actress Elisabeth Shue, making talent a family affair.
